In Florida, 2023 data from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) shows 659 reported boating accidents. Alcohol use was a factor in 7.1% of these accidents, approximately 47 incidents, and contributed to 23% of boating fatalities, roughly 16 out of 70 deaths. Operator inexperience was the second leading cause, accounting for 14.1% of accidents, or about 93 incidents. Over 80% of operators in fatal accidents lacked formal boater education, underscoring inexperience as a key risk.

• 2020: ~723 accidents (16.5% of national 5,265). Alcohol: ~7% (~51), Inexperience: ~14% (~101), Inattention: ~12% (~87), Mechanical Failure: ~10% (~72).
